Emilia (Brazilian rag doll)

 Children's Literature 

  Emilia is one of the most important characters of the brazilian children's literature. She was created by the writer Monteiro Lobato in 1920, appering for the first time in the book  Sítio do Picapau Amarelo (literally translated and roughly known as "the Yellow Woodpecker Farm" or "the Yellow Woodpecker Ranch"). 
  In the book this rag doll is not the main carachater but she becames,at least fot the readers. Carachteristics of this doll such as bold, perk and madness, won the brazilian children for generations, making the Sítio do Picapau Amarelo one of the most famous children's TV series , being playes in brazil since 1951.  

  About the Costume 

The intention of this project was to recreate a traditional character of the the brazilian children's literature having as a inpiration and the start point the typical clothes from the Brazilian Northeast. 

  In order to apply the caractheristics of this region to the costume, the first chalenge was not lose Emilia's esence. So I foucosed in the vived colours, natural textures , but I keept the doll clothing style.
